Death Cover

On the death of the life Insured occurring during the period of insurance, a payment will be made on the amount owing under the credit agreement at the date the insured event occurred, less any monthly loan repayment instalments in arrears. The insured benefit will be paid by Alliance in full and final settlement to FNB.

If the life insured commits suicide within a year of the commencement date of the policy, no benefit will be payable under this policy.

Total and Permanent Disability Cover

Total and permanent disability occurs when, owing to disability caused by illness or accidental violent, external and visible means, the life insured has become totally and permanently disabled from following any occupation or remuneration or profit; and shall include but not limited to any of the following

  • Total and irrevocable loss of sight in both eyes
  • Loss of both hands
  • Loss of both feet
  • Loss of all fingers & thumb of both hands
  • Loss of one hand and one foot
  • Total and irrevocable paralysis

Benefit

Alliance will pay the amount owing under the credit agreement at the date the insured event occurred, less any monthly loan repayment instalments in arrears. The Insured Benefit will be paid by Alliance in full and final settlement to FNB, provided that:

  • The disability has existed for not less than six calendar months;
  • Proof or evidence of total disability satisfactory to Alliance is given;
  • Total disability and the accident or illness resulting in total disability occurred during the period on insurance.

Temporary Disability Cover

Temporary disability occurs when the life insured is temporarily prevented from attending to or engaging in any business occupation or employment as a result of bodily injury caused by violent accidental, external and visible means which directly or independently of any other cause prevents him/her from attending to or engaging in any business occupation or employment.

Benefit

Alliance undertakes to pay FNB the monthly loan repayment amount falling due for payment for the duration of the continuing disablement of the Life Insured and provided that:

  • The life Insured must have been employed or earning an income when the disability occurred;
  • The temporary disability must have occurred after 3 months (90 days) from the commencement of the policy. i.e. 90 days waiting period;
  • The benefit shall not be payable for more than 6 months;
  • In the event of only partial loss of income, the amount payable will reduce proportionately;
  • The life insured provides proof of temporary disability satisfactory to Alliance;
  • The life insured provides evidence of continuance of temporary disability;
  • A total disability claim is not admitted.

Payment of claim shall cease on the earliest date, as determined by Alliance, on which the life insured:

  • Becomes able to perform the normal duties of his/ her own occupation; or
  • Has been disabled for a period of 6 months; or
  • Ceases to suffer a reduction in income attributable solely to the injury which gave rise to the claim; or
  • Refuses to follow medical treatment as recommended by his/her own medical practitioner or insurance company's chief medical officer or insurance company specialised doctors; or
  • Fails to provide evidence, satisfactory to and as requested by the company from time to time, of the continuance of incapacity justifying the continuance of the claim. The Life Insured shall as often as may be reasonably required submit to physical examinations and tests at the request of and at the expense of Alliance; or
  • Reaches the benefit cease date as shown in the schedule or on the death of the life insured.

Retrenchment Cover

Loss of employment when the life insured becoming and remaining unemployed as a result of redundancy or retrenchment and receiving no remuneration from any occupation. Proof of retrenchment must be furnished by the client in the form of a letter from the insured's employer giving the reason for retrenchment.

Benefit

In the event of the life insured being retrenched, the benefit payable after a deferred period of 90 days shall be six monthly loan repayment instalments, provided that;

  • Prospective policyholders must have been actively in employment for at least six (6) months before cover commences, otherwise a declaration of health is required, and
  • Only full-time permanent employed individuals will be covered for retrenchment - i.e. no contract workers, self-employed, part-time or temporary staff or seasonal staff will be covered. Furthermore, a retrenchment exercise exceeding 10% of the staff of one employer or 15 members (whichever is the lesser) will be excluded. Retrenchment claims resulting from voluntary termination of employment or notification of termination within 2 months of the commencement of cover will not be admitted.
  • The waiting period for this policy is two (2) months, and it shall start from the commencement date of the credit agreement with the bank;
  • No further amount shall be payable under this benefit in the event of a subsequent loss of employment where the full benefit of six months payments has previously been paid under prior retrenchment claims(s).
